Start big, finish small

The starting point of each brief is the 'big picture' - how is the space used and by whom, how is it divided, the influence of natural light, the location of existing and potential light sources and even wall, door and window positions. The consideration of floor coverings, colours, textiles and the many smaller details follows.

Some clients are also looking for art - we are constantly searching for quality pieces, which are available to view on the art page.

Each project broadly follows these stages:

1. Listen and observe

I listen and you talk - not only do I get a clear idea of what you want, but also how much you want to be involved - as little or as much as you want.

2. Set time and financial perameters

These are the foundations for a well-run, happy project. If we set realistic parameters at this stage, we have a very good chance of a good experience. The destination is often defined by the journey and so we want as smooth a journey as possible. The project will be costed in stages - generally up to x4 - and each stage will need to be settled before proceeding to the next.

3. Creative suggestions

This will be in the form of a visual presentation - it might consist of sketches and samples and/or photographs and cuttings - it can be in person or sent digitally or both - whichever you prefer.

4. Execution and delivery

Points 1 to 3 need to be thoroughly detailed and agreed, so this stage can run as well as possible. There will almost always be unforeseen obstacles, but each one will be approved by you before proceeding.
